NLT is urging people to be prepared for changes to CCNSG cards and MPQC/SPA in 2022, following announcements from their respective organisations ECITB and the Safety Pass Alliance (SPA).

From 1 April 2022 ECITB is scrapping its 3-month grace period for out-of-date CCNSG cards. Holders of CCNSG will be required to attend a Renewal Course or take the test-only online renewal BEFORE their safety passport expires.

The CCNSG Safety Passport course is a nationally recognised qualification that has been designed to offer mandatory and essential basic knowledge to personnel who work on construction and engineering sites.

Under the current rules of the scheme, holders of a valid CCNSG card have 3 years and a further 3-month grace period from the card expiry date to renew their card by attending either a 1-day CCNSG Renewal course or by taking a one-hour CCNSG Test Only for Renewal.

People who do not renew their card within 3 years of the expiry date will now have to attend the full 2-Day National Course to be in possession of a valid CCNSG Card.

However, with a significant number of sites refusing to accept CCNSG cards that have gone past the official registered expiry date, ECITB has introduced the rule change to ensure consistency across the industry as a whole.

Further industry changes for 2022, include a price increase for NLT Training Services’ MPQC/SPA 2 Day and Renewal Safety Passport courses from 1 January 2022.

Following an industry-wide price increase of 80% on the annual MPQC/SPA licence fee, NLT will, regrettably, be introducing a 20% price increase on the 1-Day Renewal and 2-Day courses.

From 1 January 2022, the new prices for MPQC/SPA courses at NLT will be:

Sarah Temperton, Chief Executive of NLT Training Services, explained: “We try to keep all our course prices as fair as possible, however the price increase for the SPA Safety Passport course is unavoidable as the cost of our license fee has increased significantly. Despite the increase, NLT still remains competitive on price.”

CCNSG Safety Passport and MPQC/SPA Safety Passport and Renewal course dates for 2022 have already been released by NLT.

MPQC/SPA courses are available at NLT’s Chesterfield site on 12 & 13 January, 23 & 24 February and 16 & 17 March.

CCNSG Safety Passport courses are available at both NLT’s Chesterfield and Scunthorpe training centres throughout January, February and March.
