In 2019, 79,000 EU nationals left the UK logistics industry (with more fork lift truck drivers leaving the industry due to the Covid pandemic), accounting for more than 7,000 unfilled vacancies in the UK, according to a study by Logistics UK. Prior to Brexit, 34% of forklift drivers were EU nationals and the current shortage means warehouses cannot operate efficiently.

Dave Fowler, Cat 1 Fork Lift Truck Instructor, commented on the benefits of the training and why it’s so important: “At the minute there is a shortage of Fork Lift drivers and machine drivers in general. If you can do yourself a favour, get trained and there’s plenty of jobs out there earning decent money. Getting trained by a good, qualified instructor is important for two reasons, the safety of everyone who works around you and the safety of yourself.”
