Are you ready for the new CSCS Smart Check app?

Developed to improve the construction industry’s card checking procedures, site safety and fraud protection, a new CSCS Smart Check app is set to be launched in April this year. CSCS Smart Check will also help the sector’s fight against modern slavery.

It’s been designed so on-site card checkers can quickly and easily make verifications on the spot, ensuring everyone has the right qualifications and training for the job.

The free app, which is available for Apple iOS and Android devices, will allow all 2.1 million cards in the construction industry displaying the CSCS logo to be electronically verified all in one place.

All 38 schemes that carry the CSCS logo, including the ECITB ACE scheme (accessible through having a valid CCNSG National Safety Passport and a CSCS Green Card), can be read by the CSCS Smart Check app which will scan QR codes and contactless chips to validate both physical and virtual cards. The app has a live feed into the databases of each card scheme.

Whilst the app’s primary need is to put an end to fraudulent cards in the industry and ensure site safety, it is also hoped it will help reduce the high percentage of trafficked persons which investigations have shown are employed in the construction industry.

Sarah added: “There is really no excuse for any reputable construction professional not to hold a valid CCNSG National Safety Passport and CSCS Green Card. The CCNSG National Safety Passport and renewal tests are easily accessible. After the initial two-day course, the Passport needs only to be renewed every three years, with a 60-minute test, costing just £75.”
