The British Values:

The government set out their definition of British Values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy.  In 2014, the Department of Education published guidance on promoting British Values in schools to ensure young people leave school and further education prepared for life in Modern Britain.

At NLT Training Services, we are dedicated to promoting values which ensure that our learners develop a strong sense of social and moral responsibility. We prepare our learners for life in Modern Britain by developing an understanding of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

The five definitions of British values are as follows:

  • Democracy
  • The rule of Law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual Respect
  • Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs

It is our aim that all of NLT’s learners are able to contribute effectively to the wider community, using the skills and knowledge they have acquired during their time at NLT. As well as being fully engaged in their learning experience, we want our learners to become responsible and well-rounded individuals.

NLT’s business plan confirms a mission and vision to place “NLT at the heart of the community” through the following values:

  • Integrity and Respect
  • Quality
  • Professionalism
  • Flexible approach
  • Belief and take pride in what we do
  • Caring

To ensure that our learners develop the skills, knowledge and behaviour required, as Senior Managers and Governors, we are responsible for providing a curriculum which:

  • Is broad and balanced, complies with statutory requirements and provides a wide range of subjects which prepare students for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life in Modern Britain.
  • Actively promotes the fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance.
  • Promotes tolerance of and respect for people of all faiths, no faith and of different cultures through the effective spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of learners.

Democracy

The principle of democracy is consistently being reinforced at NLT, as all learners are encouraged to debate topics of interest, express their views and make a meaningful contribution to the running of the business on matters that directly involve learners.

The rule of law

The importance of laws, whether they be those that govern the class, or the country, are consistently reinforced at NLT.

Individual liberty

At NLT all learners are actively encouraged to make independent choices with the knowledge that they are in a safe, secure and supportive environment. Staff at NLT educate and provide boundaries for learners to make informed choices, through a safe environment and an empowering education. NLT has a robust anti-bullying culture and has in place a comprehensive Behaviour Policy that promotes achievement for all learners.

Mutual Respect and Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

Respect is a strong part of NLT and is part of our company’s Shared Values. Learners learn that their behaviour has an effect on their own rights and those of others. All members of the NLT’s community treat each other with respect and this is reiterated through our teaching and learning environments.

Learners are helped to acquire an understanding of, and respect for, their own and other cultures and ways of life. NLT welcomes those with varying backgrounds and we teach our learners to understand their place in a culturally diverse society. Staff and learners are encouraged to challenge prejudicial or discriminatory behaviour wherever it occurs.

NLT Training Services strives endlessly to ensure that its learners leave with the strongest foundation of values upon which to build a successful life and a successful contribution to our society.
