This five-day Introduction to CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Turning course is designed to give delegates the skills they need to part-programme, set and operate CNC machines and devices.

Delegates who attend the course will gain understanding of the safety aspects of the automated turning processes used in the manufacturing industry. The course recognises industry required knowledge and processes and is useful for anyone in the engineering environment.

The course is tailored to delegates’ needs and requirements in order to up-skill them and expand on their current abilities.

Who Should Attend:

The course is aimed at delegates who have manual machinery knowledge and wish to up-skill and increase their capabilities within the engineering and manufacturing industries.

Delegates’ progress will be reviewed through practical exercises, however, as this is a non-accredited source, no official assessment will be carried out.

As this is a non-accredited course, no formal certification will be received by delegates.

Entry Requirements:

Delegates are required to have a basic understanding of manual machinery.

The five-day Introduction to CNC Turning course, covers the following:

  • Introduction to the lathe and its controls: – referencing the machine; manual movement of machine axis and start-up of spindle; manual tool changing
  • Introduction to programming: – reference axis, basic movements in X and Z axes, circular interpolation – arcs, radii, canned cycles including facing, turning, threading, stock removal and finishing cycles, use of sub-routines
  • Programme preparation
  • Loading program into control (manual data input)
  • Setting tool offsets
  • Execution of programme – setting tool offsets, tool changing and editing tool offsets

Delegates will understand the following:

  • The Health and Safety requirements in a CNC environment
  • Code programming
  • Interpolation movements
  • Cutting movements
  • How to set up the machines
  • How to manage state of the art machines
  • Tool and work offsets

The course is delivered at NLT’s Chesterfield and Scunthorpe sites. It can also be delivered in your workplace. Please get in touch with a member of our Business Development Team today to discuss your requirements.
