Description

Our courses are designed to introduce delegates to a centre lathe, mount tools, work holding devices and turn components. It is designed to enable delegates to safely set and operate a centre lathe.

Recognised in the mechanical engineering industries, the course is for delegates who need to be introduced to the centre lathe and those who need a refresher in the mechanical manufacturing environments.

This course is very much hands on using on-machine practical exercises and is delivered in your company environment.

We will bespoke the course to meet the company’s needs and it is delivered on site in your company.

Who should attend:

The courses are suitable for people with little or no knowledge of centre lathe and centre lathe turning. It is also suitable for those who need a refresher in these machines and the workings of them.

Assessment:

As this is a non-accredited course, there is no assessment.

 Certification:

As this is a non-accredited course, no certification is supplied to delegates. However, this course can be used to support NVQ programmes.

Entry Requirements:

Delegates are required to have a basic understanding of engineering principles and hand skills.

The five-day Introduction to Centre Lathe Turning covers the following:

  • Awareness presentation
  • Safety consideration
  • Machine controls and operation
  • Types of turning tools
  • Speed and feed calculations
  • Tool setting
  • Working from datums
  • Setting work three jaw chuck
  • Centre drilling use of tailstock
  • Turning stepped shafts
  • Controlling the cut
  • Work holding – four jaw chuck, mandrel
  • Drilling – centre drills, holes, drilling to depth, reaming and tapping
  • Turning operations – simple angles, form tools, threading with die, steps and shoulders inspection

As part of the course, the delegate will know:

  • About the safety precautions and awareness
  • How to control the machine
  • The technicalities behind operating the machine
  • How to drill in numerous circumstances (centre drills, drilling to depth, etc.)
  • About the turning operations
