Chesterfield has become the first town in the UK to declare itself an ‘Apprentice Town’, demonstrating its commitment to growing the future and careers of young people alongside business and the economy.
Currently there are more than 4,000 people participating in Apprenticeships in Chesterfield. NLT Training Services, based on Station Road in Brimington, is the only training provider in the area to deliver specialist engineering Apprenticeships.
Chesterfield Borough Council is leading the Apprentice Town initiative which aims to raise awareness of Apprenticeships and promote co-operative working across the education, business and learning community.
With 4,000 jobs set to be created in and around Chesterfield over the next five years, Apprenticeships are being seen as key to attracting more employers to invest in the town.
NLT is one of seven employment, training and investment organisations from Chesterfield that is working collaboratively to help companies recruit and develop their workforce both now and in the future. Other members of the Apprentice Town steering group include Destination Chesterfield, Chesterfield College, University of Derby, East Midlands Chamber, Jobcentre Plus, Enterprise Adviser Network and Derbyshire County Council,
Cathie Mitchell, Head of Operations at NLT Training Services said: “We’re delighted to support the Apprentice Town initiative. NLT wants Chesterfield to be a town where young people, parents and businesses think ‘Apprenticeship First’.
“The initiative sends a positive message to young people and employers in Chesterfield that the town takes Apprenticeships seriously. They are key to retaining young talent in Chesterfield and helping companies within the engineering and manufacturing sector address future skill shortages.”
