HEALTH AND SAFETY STARTS AT THE TOP FOR POWER SYSTEMS SERVICES

Power Systems Services, which is a leading supplier of replacement elements for regenerative air and gas pre-heaters to industry and utility companies, demonstrated its commitment to Health & Safety when managing director Paul Beauchamp decided to study for the NEBOSH Health & Safety Qualification with NLT Training Services.

Paul, who owns the Chesterfield-based business, was keen to follow the course himself, as his organisation is dedicated to maintaining a strong health and safety culture and he believes it is important that this starts at the top.

Paul explains: “Health and safety is such an important part of business today, especially when you employ a large number of people. I wanted to lead by example and show just how committed we are to good health and safety practices throughout our business.   We have an excellent health and safety record within the company and this is because all our supervisors and managers receive high quality training.”

The 13 week NEBOSH course that Paul is currently undertaking has seen huge success at NLT Training Services. At a recent exam, candidates exceeded the national average pass rate, which is testament to the high quality of its tuition.

Paul Beauchamp continues: “Everyone deserves the right to come to work and be adequately protected to do their job safely.  Many of our projects involve work at heights and working in industrial environments, where there is always a potential risk of harm.  It is vitally important that all our staff understand the importance of good health and safety practices and that they take responsibility for their own and their colleagues’ safety, at all levels of the organisation.  We just don’t accept that ‘accidents happen’ in our organisation – what we say is ‘accidents can be avoided’.”

Power Systems Services has worked with NLT Training Services for a number of years, with the organisation providing a range of training including IOSH, first aid, COSHH and fork lift truck training.  A family business, Power Systems Services currently employs 50 staff and this is set to increase in the coming months as the company grows even further.

NLT Training Services is well known for providing a wide range of health and safety courses, which are increasing in popularity, due to the need to manage risk more effectively in organisations. The NEBOSH course is aimed at health and safety Supervisors and Managers within organisations, consisting of one day per week training sessions over 13 weeks with the course content covering everything from learning to promote a positive health culture, dealing with electrical, mechanical and psychological hazards to incident investigation.

Peter Minto, health and safety training officer at NLT Training Services, explains: “Paul is setting a great example, not only to his own staff, but also to other businesses on the importance of health and safety within an organisation.  NEBOSH is a well respected qualification and we have seen some fantastic results over the years for many delegates.  Health and safety is something that affects everyone in a business and organisations that adopt robust policies of protecting employers and preventing accidents are reaping the rewards.”

NLT Training Services, who will be starting a new NEBOSH course in September, also offers a wide range of health and safety courses including IOSH Managing Safely, CCNSG (Client Contractor National Safety Group) Safety Passport, Asbestos Awareness and CIEH Risk Assessment.
