COATINGS COMPANY COMMITS TO TRAIN TO GAIN WITH NLT

Sonneborn & Rieck, the high performance coatings company, which has a factory in Chesterfield, has committed another 25 staff to the Train to Gain programme through NLT Training Services in Chesterfield.

Last year, having seen the benefits of 21 staff undertaking Train to Gain courses with NLT Training Services, the company was pleased to put forward more staff to undertake courses in customer services, team leading and NVQ Level 3 management and commercial management.

Kerry Stone, Group HR Manager at Sonneborn & Rieck explains: “Train to Gain helps staff to build their confidence and learn new skills, especially for those who have not had training before or who have been out of education for a while.  We identified customer services and team leading and management as important areas where Train to Gain courses could help.  In these more challenging times, it is really important to invest in your people, particular those in management and supervisor roles to ensure they have the necessary skills to keep the business competitive.”

Last year, twenty one staff at Sonneborn & Rieck completed their NVQ Level 2 in either Performing Manufacturing Operations, Distribution, Warehousing and Storage Operations or Team Leading, as part of upgrading the skills of staff and increasing productivity and efficiency in the business. Sonneborn & Rieck saw many benefits from this training, including making staff more responsible and encouraging them to look to the future and identify ways to develop the business and make it more competitive.

Kerry Stone continues: “We are hoping through the training to motivate our staff so we can make the business even stronger.  We are moving forward with renewed optimism now and this training for some of our key team leaders and managers is a vital part of this.”

Steve Meadows, Chief Executive at NLT Training Services, said: “We are delighted to be continuing to provide Train to Gain courses to Sonneborn & Rieck staff.  They It saw major benefits from the programme last year, which just goes to show the importance of investing in quality training. Train to Gain is making a huge difference to hundreds of businesses and their staff across our region by enhancing their skills, as well as improving morale, motivation and business performance.”
Steve Meadows continues: “Train to Gain can make an incredible difference to a workforce.  They feel that their company is investing in them, which improves their confidence and motivation, helping them to become better at their job.”

Train to Gain courses are fully funded by the Learning and Skills Council, which means that there are no financial costs to employers, all that is required of them is that they give their staff the time to train. Training is normally carried out at business premises, so there is minimal disruption for staff.
Train to Gain is aimed at employees who may not have had any formal training before to bring them up to NVQ Level 2, which is equivalent to five GCSEs at grades A*-C. Large and small organisations can enroll in the initiative and each programme is tailor made to suit each individual company’s needs.

NLT Training Services provide a number of Train to Gain courses for employees to choose from, which range from the more general NVQs in Team Leading and Numeracy & Literacy, to the more specialised NVQs in Distribution, Warehousing & Storage Operations, Metals Processing & Finishing and Engineering, Specialised Plant & Machinery Operations.
