Course Objectives
• To enable participants to achieve work based competences inMaterials Processing and Finishing Activities
• To assist participants gain a nationally recognised qualification
• To improve the skills level of an Employer’s Workforce

Course Content
There are six pathways that an employer would select from

Moulding and Core Making
Melting and Casting Metal
Fettling and Finishing
Applying Coatings and Coverings
Composite Manufacture
Injection Moulding

After induction to the programme candidates will be required to provide evidence of competence for the units that make up a specific pathway. They will also need an understanding of underpinning knowledge for the selected pathway and individual units.

Mandatory Units
MPF2/001 Complying with Statutory Regulation and Organisational Safety Requirements
MPF2/002 Using and Interpreting Engineering Data and Documentation
MPF2/003 Working Efficiently and Effectively in Engineering

Optional Units for Melting and Casting Metal Pathway (must complete the three mandatory units plus 2 units from the choice below)

MPF2/013 Melting Metal for Casting
MPF2/014 Casting Metal by Manual Means
MPF2/015 Casting Metal by Mechanical Means
MPF2/016 Preparing Furnace and Ladle Linings for Melting and Pouring Metal
MPF2/017 Controlling and Treating Molten Metal in Readiness for Casting
MPF2/018 Producing Metallic Castings using the Gravity Die Process
MPF2/019 Producing Metallic Castings using the Pressure Die Process

Units for Injection Moulding Pathway (must complete the three mandatory units plus the unit below)

MPF2/060 Operating Plastic Injection Moulding Machines

Designed for
Personnel who work on Materials Processing and require additional skills or have no formal qualifications
