Train to Gain

Q: What is Train to Gain
A: Under the Train to Gain service, NLT Training Services is able to offer NVQ Level 2 training at no cost for eligible candidates to help employers and employees gain from training.  To meet the funding criteria your employees need to be over 19 and do not currently hold a Level 2 qualification (this could either be five GCSEs at Grades A-C or equivalent or a vocational qualification), then we can offer full Level 2 training at no cost.

Q: What is an NVQ?
A: NVQs are work-related qualifications that demonstrate competence in a particular field of work to national occupational standards.  NVQs show that the employee has the skills and knowledge needed to do the specified job effectively.

Q: What are the benefits of NVQs for employers?
A:

  • Relevant to business and are work-related.
  • Up to date with best practice.
  • Ensures that staff are working to national standards and training needs are identified.
  • Creates a positive and motivated workforce leading to lower staff turnover and absence.
  • Greater productivity, performance and competitiveness.
  • Staff gain a clear understanding of their responsibilities.
  • Raised standards of performance delivery to customers.

Q: What are the benefits of NVQs for employees?
A:

  • Recognition of existing skills.
  • Evidence that you can do your job to a nationally recognised standard.
  • Gain confidence in your chosen area.
  • Learning by 'doing’ rather than sitting exams or tests.
  • Mainly work-based so you can fit it into your work routine.
  • Flexible: completed at a time and pace to suit within agreed limits.

NVQs are qualifications to be valued.  All the key aspects of the job are covered in NVQs including current best practice, adaptability to meet future requirements and the knowledge and understanding that underpin competent performance.

Your NVQ trained staff will go on to share skills with new recruits adding even more value to the NVQ.  The system is flexible, therefore NVQs are suitable for those who already have skills which they would like to develop and have recognised as well as those who are starting at the beginning.

Q: What are the restrictions on funding?

A: Under the Train to Gain service, NLT Training Services is able to offer NVQ Level 2 training at no cost for eligible candidates to help employers and employees gain from training.  To meet the funding criteria your employees need to be over 19 and do not currently hold Level 2 qualification (this could either be five GCSEs at Grades A-C or equivalent or a vocational qualification), then we can offer full Level 2 training at no cost.

The amount of time you'll spend studying varies; it can be anything from 100 to 1,000 hours over the course of your Apprenticeship, depending on your chosen profession.

Q: Do I get paid?

A: As an apprentice you must be paid at least £80 per week as this is a condition for employers offering Apprenticeships. You may well be paid more than this and the amount will depend upon the sector you work in, your age and where you are in the Apprenticeship.

A: All sorts of people, from all walks of life, are working towards or have successfully completed an Apprenticeship, in order for success an element of commitment is required and expected on your part.
