• Basic engineering skills to include:-
Measuring skills using micrometers, calipers and verniers
Marking out using vernier height gauges
Drilling, reaming, countersinks, counterbores
Use of profile gauges and protractors
Produce and fit a taper key
Produce internal and external threads
Extracting broken studs
Repair damaged threads using heli-coils
Thread technology and recognition
Hand grinding small tools
Use of data tables
• Dismantling and re-assembly skills to include:-
Dismantle/re-assemble pumps, gearboxes, pneumatic cylinders
Extract and fit bearings
• Alignment and tensioning skills to include:-
Align and shim motor to a machine coupling
Align and tension drive belts
• Refurbishing plant and equipment to include:-
Vacuum pumps, pneumatic cylinders, mechanical seals
• Moving heavy loads to include:-
Moving a machine using toe jacks and skates
Lift a heavy load using slings and associated equipment
Risk assessments related to lifting operations
• Isolation and exhausting of machine services to include:-
Electrical (operatives only)
Compressed air
Vacuum
